Yesterday, a debate was held in Westminster Hall in response to a successful e-petition regarding immigration from Romania and Bulgaria. The full transcript can be read here bit.ly/14LO5Ll . CPG co-chair Nicholas Soames  suggested that consideration should be given to whether EU members should have powers, during periods of high unemployment, to restrict the free movement of labour, which is at present guaranteed by EU law. He also said that the role of the welfare state needed the most careful consideration. The payment of in-work benefits, such as tax credits, to low-paid workers contributed substantially to the financial incentive to migrate. bit.ly/10w25r2
